Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)

Frown lines above the nose and in the middle of the forehead will produce an unwanted older appearance. As a result of stress and age, we tend to make expressions that promote creases, resulting in a serious, unhappy, aged appearance. A brow lift eliminates these lines and will improve your appearance. A brow lift is one of the only procedures that allow Dr. Gartner to access the hard to reach muscles that cause forehead furrows.

A browlift is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The browlift procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.

A browlift combats the signs of aging by diminishing frown lines and raising naturally low or "heavy" brows. Brow lift surgery works by elevating muscles and tissues that cause the brow to droop, creating a smoother looking forehead. It may be done in conjunction with other rejuvenative surgery to achieve a more harmonious facial appearance. A forehead lift is also appropriate for treatment of certain inherited traits. Younger adults who have a low brow or who already have deep frown lines due to stress or overactivity of muscles may benefit from the procedure.

Browlift Ideal Candidates

  • sagging or low position of the eyebrows, creating a tired or sad appearance
  • deep horizontal creases across the forehead
  • frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose

Browlift Surgery

An incision behind the hairline allows the browlift surgeon to minimize visible scarring. The surgeon then elevates the skin and muscle of the forehead, using an endoscope (small camera) to visualize important structures. The eyebrows may also be lifted and secured into their higher position by sutures beneath the skin's surface. When the lift is complete, the scalp incisions will be closed with stitches or clips and the area will be washed. Gauze and an elastic bandage may also be used, depending on your surgeon's preference.

Browlift Recovery

Most patients are back to work or school in lees than a week. Vigorous physical activity should limited for several weeks, including jogging, bending, heavy housework, sex, or any activity that increases your blood pressure. Prolonged exposure to heat or sun should be limited for several months. Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks.
