Liposuction, also known as liposculpture is a procedure that can help contour the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. If you have stubborn bulges that won't go away, no matter how much weight you lose or if you lose weight and then gain it back again and again, then you may want to see what liposuction can do for you. Do you look at people striding around the world in sleek, beautifully contoured bodies and wonder how they got so lucky?

You might be surprised to find out how many of those "lucky" people are
products of talented plastic surgeons like Dr. Gartner. Today we can
contour bodies as though we were sculptors. The more experience we have,
the more precise our outcomes. Dr. Gartner has years of experience using liposuction alone or in conjunction with other procedures to sculpt the body you desire.

Benefits of Liposuction

Liposuction is not a weight reduction treatment, but a method of reshaping and contouring areas of the body that are disproportionate. This is not noticeable in pounds but rather in an improved shape. Because liposuction produces such immediate and visible results, the procedure has gained popularity among both men and women.

Is Liposuction safe?

Liposuction is a safe procedure as long as you are medically healthy. The facility must be clean and properly equipped and the doctor must be highly trained. All surgery does carry some degree of risk. Dr. Gartner will go over all the possible risks and complications with you during your consultation.

How will my skin look after Liposuction?

The changes following liposuction are similar to what you would expect if you could lose an equal amount of localized fat through diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite, although many patients do notice an improvement in the appearance of cellulite after the fat cells are removed. Alternative treatments may be considered, in some instances to, improve this problem. Contour irregularities including depressions and wrinkling of the skin can occur in some patients, but treatments are usually available to help minimize these problems if they occur.

Is the fat removal permanent?

Yes. The fat cells in the treated areas are gone. The localized fatty deposits that existed prior to liposuction can no longer balloon up out of proportion to the surrounding areas. Should you gain weight after liposuction; the fat will enter the fat cells that remain in your body.

Liposuction Procedure

The technique involves a small incision and inserting a hollow tube, called a cannula. Fluid may be added to reduce bleeding and discomfort. Using a back and forth motion with the cannula, excess fat is suctioned and collected in a canister where it is measured.

Liposuction Recovery

Post-operative recovery is relatively quick, but bruising and swelling can remain for 2-4 weeks. Moderate exercise can be resumed after one week. Depending on the size of the areas and how many areas involved, most patients are able to return to work in 3-7 days. A compressive garment must be worn for 4-6 weeks for optimal results. If following surgery, you maintain a healthy lifestyle (including a sensible diet), perform moderate exercise and maintain your weight, excellent long-term results are expected. Occasionally, a touchup may be desired to further improve an area that has been suctioned. The additional treatment can sometimes be performed under local anesthesia in Dr Gartner's office.

Body Contouring

Liposuction is one technique used in body contouring. It can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time or in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery techniques at the same time to sculpt the body you desire.

Liposuction is but one of the many treatments we offer to revitalize your appearance. Patients enjoy a renewed self confidence in themselves. Take a look at our before and after photos.
